Netbooks to play with
I’m going to get a couple of netbooks to play with. What do you all think? Solid state or normal hard drives? XP or Linux? Come on, tech dorks, give me some tips.

I think you are all aware of my deep and abiding love of gadgets at this point. I just ordered a terabyte of external storage for my house, and, I have to admit, that even I’m surprised at how happy it’s making me. I mean, look at it!

Isn’t it beautiful?!? I remember being in high school talking about how cool it would be to have a terabyte of storage all to myself (note: my friends and I should have spent more time focused on girls in retrospect). Of course, I had an 80 meg hard drive at the time. Anyway, this sweet baby is going right into the wifi and we’re off to the races. Sooo cool.
Now I just need to talk the wife into letting me get a fancy new linux netbook. Any suggestions on which one?
I’m finally back from several weeks of travel and thought I’d drop a quick post. I’ll get around to a more complete post mortem of my vacation in a few days. The most important thing to bear in mind from the last several weeks is that I’ve gotten Kevin Spacey and MC Hammer to take my picture.
It seems that if you run up to famous people and ask them to take your photo, they tend to be fairly compliant in their confusion (note: it helps if you’ve had a couple of cocktails and talk really fast). Reverse Paparazzi is my new favorite game.
I can’t begin to tell you how happy this site makes me. There’s a painting I recently saw at the thrift store by my house that belongs here. It was a lovely oil on canvas of E.T. holding an Eliot doll. I hope it’s still available when I get back to LA. Anyway, you need to check out the Museum of Bad Art.
I demand you all watch this immediately. A note from the original poster:
“Two questions:
1) Who in Manhattan owns a llama as a pet?
2) Shouldn’t this girl be accompanied by a parent?”
